What is it? Two concerts in the sublime acoustics of the abbey's church. Get your tickets early. These shows sell out quickly.
Why see it? The Mepkin Abbey Concert Series never fails to capture the absolute finest performances from musicians. Perhaps it's the near perfect clarity of sound provided by the church. Perhaps it's the clarity of mind provided by the close proximity to Mepkin's contemplative order. Whatever the reason, this season's concerts promise to continue the storied tradition. The first features Brandon Nichols on horn and Nick Masterson on oboe, both accompanied by The Ensemble of St. Clare, and selections from Handel's Messiah performed by the Vocal Arts Ensemble. The second concert finds festival favorites the St. Petersburg String Quartet plying the deep, polystylistic waters of Schnittke's Third Quartet, as well as Debussy's lone venture into the realm of string quartets.
Who should go? Serious Piccolo Spoletians already know the potential for legendary performances at the Abbey. These are heady waters to ply while respecting the commitment of the order's members.
