Melvin’s is known as the “kinder, gentler” cousin of Maurice Bessinger’s barbecue, and we like Melvin’s just fine. It’s a simpler spot, with delicious Lowcountry barbecue sandwiches and plates, and a fantastic burger that has gotten a stamp of approval from City Paper readers — and some guy named Jimmy Buffett. The locations on Folly Road and in Mt. P are spotless, friendly, and exude niceness and good Southern cookin’.
