Medical manuscripts at Karpeles

The Karpeles Manuscript Museum opened a new exhibit on Jan. 1 called Milestones in Modern Medicine. The exhibit consists of about two dozen manuscripts representing breakthroughs in the development of modern medicine, including understanding blood circulation, theory and use of vaccination, treatment of rabies, discovery of vitamins, and more. You'll find writings of and about luminaries like Louis Pasteur, William Mayo, Florence Nightingale, Benjamin Franklin, and Clara Barton.

The exhibit will be on view through April 2010. As always, parking and admission to the museum are free. It is open Tues.-Fri. from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Call (843) 853-4651 for more information.
