Mardi Gras at the Royal American
Sat., Feb. 18, 7 p.m. 2012
As much as we Charlestonians love to down a few colds ones, the Lowcountry isn’t exactly the drinking destination that New Orleans is. And thankfully (or not), King Street doesn’t have as many places for people to get inebriated as Bourbon Street. But that doesn’t seem to be stopping local folks from taking part in the annual debauchery that is Mardi Gras. New dive bar the Royal American is making sure that everyone gets a fair share of NOLA spirit by throwing a Fat Tuesday celebration — on a Saturday, no less — complete with all the carnival essentials, like a live brass band for those who feel the urge to dance and authentic gumbo and Po’ Boy sandwiches for alcohol-fueled munchies. And there will be lots of colorful party favors whose acquisition (hopefully) won’t require any clothing removal.
