The third annual Lowcountry Jazz Festival offers a breezy variety of smooth jazz, fusion, funk, and instrumental pop on Friday and Saturday. On Fri. Sept. 2, singer/songwriter Michael Franks headlines with a selection of tunes from his 38-year career, which is highlighted by the 1976 hit “Popsicle Toes.” Franks’ latest disc is titled Time Together. Trumpeter Charlton Singleton (of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra) and his combo welcome pianist/songwriter Cyrus Chestnut as the special guest in the opening set.
