They’re not kidding when they call this thing the Locals First Block Party. The second annual event is all about locals, on a weekend that’s very much about the national foodie scene (ahem, Wine + Food). They’re having local food (a $12 plate of brisket from the Upstate Farmer’s Alliance), beer, wine, and music (local band the Bushels). There’s a “Jimmy Stash Awards,” a local spin on the James Beard Awards, which will recognize local restaurants with eccentric awards that only locals could appreciate. A $5-per-ticket raffle will benefit Lowcountry Local First’s Sustainable Agriculture Initiative, which unites local farms with local restaurants. The top prize is a Big Green Egg — that’s a smoker, not a Dr. Seuss reference — donated by a local business. Wonder how many times the word “local” is in this write-up? —Susan Cohen
