Lazo's open, Center Street Kitchen closed

Busy Folly corner gets a new establishment

A new restaurant has opened in the space that was most recently occupied by Center Street Kitchen on Folly. Mike Kirages, who owns Snapper Jack's, debuted Lazo's, a fair trade, organic, and farm-fresh establishment, at the beginning of February.

Lazo's prides itself on offering patrons some of the freshest food in town. They keep things organic wherever possible and source their own shrimp and 100 percent pure spring water. "It's our own water, from our own estate," says Kirages, "and we've got a three-quarter acre pond where we are farming our own organic shrimp."

Kirages partnered up with good friend and College of Charleston geology professor Gered Lennon to farm the shrimp and create the Folly Beach Shrimp Company. The company will not only supply Lazo's, but will also sell to other restaurants in Charleston. Lazo's gets fair trade beans from Coastal Coffee to supply its coffee bar.

For now, Lazo's is only open for breakfast and lunch, but Kirages plans to open the upstairs tiki bar for dinner as the weather warms up. Along with a dinner menu, Lazo's will introduce a new drink menu, which will feature some yummy frozen drinks perfect for the beach.
