Full Love Throttle

Charleston comedy royalty Brandy Sullivan and Greg Tavares of the Have Nots! have been working together for a really long time. And when you watch them on stage, you can tell that their kind of comedy only comes from a lot of trust, familiarity, and knowing someone way too well. The premise of this show all boils down to one brave audience member who volunteers to be brought on stage and answer questions posed by Sullivan and Tavares. All these answers — whether they're about what they did that day or what kind of tattoos they have — inspire the scenes throughout the show. If you're hoping to be that fortunate audience member, you're going to have to be at least 21. "We want someone with enough life experience," says Sullivan. "And not anyone drunk. That doesn't work out."

Human Fireworks

Greg Tavares, Amber Mann, Tommy Hutchins, Andy Livengood, Betsy Harper, and Brian DeCosta make up Human Fireworks, one of the only acts in town that specializes in the Harold, a long-form improv style. However, this group gives it a special twist with an opening that, according to Tavares, is "queer as shit." Audience members suggest different words to group members, and they then develop a physical gesture or sound that describes the word. "It's kind of a weird, awkward dance," Tavares says. These movements are then used as inspiration for all the rest of the scenes, which typically start out as normal interactions between people. "Instead of delivering funny," Tavares says, "this form discovers it along the way."
