Local quartet L Brown Odyssey returns to the downtown stage with new material and big plans. Singer/guitarist Daniel Bennett, bassist/keyboardist Khalid Smalls, drummer Jordan Herschaft, and guitarist Ryan Holderfield have almost completed a forthcoming self-titled EP, which Bennett expects to be finished within a month. “Our new record has been in the archives for about a year, and we’ve just been mixing it since then,” Bennett says. “We’ve been taking our time with it.” Following the release of the EP, L Brown Odyssey plans to do a college radio campaign, and they’ll play several local shows to promote it. “I think anyone will be able to latch onto our new songs, but it is geared more toward the indie-rock crowd,” Bennett says. “There are some hints of folk in there, but it’s mostly geared toward college radio.” L Brown Odyssey has been known to add a wild theatrical element to their shows, but Bennett doesn’t see the group bringing those out anytime soon. He’s happy with how they’ve evolved. “The material has changed a lot since we first began,” he says. “And there’s plenty of new material on the menu."
