Johns Island Harvest Fest Offers Fall Fun

Horsin' Around

There’s only two words needed to attract visitors to the 9th Annual Harvest Fest: horse vaulting. You read that right: On Nov. 6 at the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center at Johns Island County Park, people are going to be doing gymnastics on horses. The steed-swinging comes courtesy of the Storm Riders 4H Club, a group of kids (even cooler!) from Dorchester County.

In addition to horse vaulting, the festival includes lasso demonstrations, penny diving, crafts, hay rides, and more. Local bluegrass bands Common Ground, Blue Stone Ramblers, Flatt City, Blue Plantation, and YeeHaw Junction supply the day’s soundtrack, while equally Southern food is offered, including Carolina barbeque, turkey legs, and roasted corn on the cob.

For the real equine enthusiasts, the center is also offering a Weekend Trail Ride, a two-day, 20-mile ride and camping trip. The event, however, is BYOH (bring your own horse).
