We don’t mean to but sometimes we get stuck on the peninsula, and we miss out on activities like the Homegrown Johns Island Farmers Market. The Saturday farmers market started four months ago and has been a huge success since day one. “I think the market has been such a success because we are here 100 percent to make a connection between the hard work and passion of local farmers and artisans, thus giving our community an outlet to make a positive, loving change in their lives,” says co-founder Frasier Block. “Johns Island is the countryside of Charleston and where most of the farms are located. I think people are learning to respect that and coming out to show how important it is to spread the local love and awareness of making sustainable choices.” And with the market’s success, they’re introducing new classes starting this Saturday with an observation bee hive and AgSouth grant presentation. The market also has a bounce castle every week and live music.
