J.B. Pivots Closes

Long-running beach/shag venue says good-bye

Sad news from the shag scene: long-running dance club J.B. Pivots (1662 Savannah Hwy.) — a major sponsor of the annual Beach Music & Shag Festival — closed last week after a lengthy financial struggle.

"The high rent and other expenses incurred just could not be met with the small amount of interest left for shagging and beach music at Pivots," announced proprietor Harriett Grady-Thomas in a press release. "I did my very best to keep it open as long as I could, and my staff has worked hard to do the same. I do still have a passion to keep the dance and music alive in South Carolina, and will continue to do everything in my power to reach that goal."

Grady-Thomas plans to maintain the venue's website and newsletters, keeping fans and members informed on local and regional beach 'n' shag news and events. Visit pivotsbeachclub.com for more.
