Redux and New Music Collective are going underground — or maybe just staying underground — Saturday, with a concert from Jason Ajemian’s High Life. The experimental jazz/rock group, whose members hail from New York and Chicago, is currently on a 12-city tour. Ajemian, who acts as composer, vocalist, and acoustic bassist for the band, is a big player in Chicago’s underground music scene, playing a variety of improvised, noise, and experimental music. The rest of the band includes Jacob Wick on trumpet, Peter Hansen on sax, Owen Stewart-Robertson on guitar, and Marc Riordan on drums. According to a release on NMC’s website, “Jason has created scores in the architectural drawing software AutoCAD to create visual blueprints that dictate the flow and motion of a musical set as well as open the performers up to visual influences. The performers will have pictographic schematics representing both the overall flow of the set as well as close-ups of individual sections.” Two hours before the actual show, Ajemian and his band will discuss the creation and implementation of their output. We’re sure they can explain it a lot better than we ever could. The presentation is free, thanks to grant support from the Coastal Community Foundation. —Erica Jackson
