Here’s a shameless plug for the fellows of the Fairy God Muthas. Veteran rocker James Hall (of the Future Bold, Pleasure Club) returns to town this week for two shows. He’ll be putting a twist on his regular performance, though. Instead of bringing his current band, Hall has enlisted the Muthas — guitarist/bassist Doug Walters (of Torture Town), guitarist Daniel Bennett (of L Brown Odyssey), and drummer Ballard Lesemann (City Paper’s music editor) — as his backing band. “This enterprise is actually a unique way of doing it that I’ve never done before,” says Hall. “I rely on these guys to learn the songs, so then I can actually show up and play together with them.” That shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for the Muthas, as they’ve shared bills with Hall before. “I’m not really at that point in my life anymore when I’m 22 and willing to crash out on a vinyl couch,” Hall adds. “I’m taking stock of the situation around me and trying to play to that, as opposed to working a non-workable scenario. It allows me to keep making music.”
