Charleston vocalist and songwriter Elise Testone and an ensemble of local talent get on the good foot as they revive the popular James Brown Dance Party. The backing band Soul Power and the Bootyshakers features drummer Stuart White, bassist Ben Wells, guitarist Lee Barbour, trombonist Jeremy Carter, trumpeter Steve Berry, and sax players Simon Harding and Dan O’Reilly. Backing singers include Rachel Kate Gillon (of the Shaniqua Brown) and Vikki Matsis. The band will play a variety of funky stuff through two sets. “We’ve added three Tower of Power songs to spice things up,” says Testone. “This show is an amazing way to bring together fabulous seasoned musicians and combine our efforts to spread positive energy through music. I look forward to it tremendously.” The party starts at 9 p.m.
