Italian-Inspired New Year's Eve Dinner at the Glass Onion
Sat., Dec. 31, 6-10 p.m. 2011
$40/person, $20/additional wine pairing
The Glass Onion is already well known for perfecting Southern food, but on New Year’s Eve, the West Ashley restaurant will try its hand at Italian — with a Southern kick. “(Chef) Chris Stewart has always loved to play on the connections he sees between Southern and Italian food,” says GO co-owner Sarah O’Kelley. “Grits are obviously a very close relation of polenta, but also there is the dominance of pork and slow cooking in both cuisines as well.” On their dinner menu, you’ll find Carolina Gold risotto balls, Tennessee “proscuitto” from Alan Benton, housemade ricotta, sweet potato gnocchi, and more. Guests can also opt for a $20 wine pairing of sustainable Italian wines. Instead of champagne, a complimentary glass of prosecco will come with dessert, and there will be live jazz. Reservations are required.
