Now that it’s really December (starting Thursday, at least), you don’t have to feel guilty for getting possessed by the holiday spirit. After a special extended Holiday Farmers Market and the Official City of Charleston Christmas Tree Lighting in Marion Square this Saturday, head down to the waterfront for the Holiday Magic Parade of Boats. Participating boats will assemble in the middle of the harbor around dusk, each decked out from stem to stern with vibrant lights. The procession of shimmering watercrafts will set out on their route, which begins on the Mt. Pleasant side of the Cooper River. The boats then make their way around the Charleston peninsula before entering the Ashley River, just before the James Island Connector bridge. The glowing vessels will be visible from a number of spots around the peninsula, but coordinators from the Office of Cultural Affairs suggest the Waterfront Park pier as the best vantage point. For those wanting to decorate their vessel and join the fun, applications will be accepted until Dec. 1.
