There comes a point every year when it’s time to put that bottle of bourbon in the back of a cabinet and pull out the gin. Add some tonic and a slice of lime and you’ve got an adult porch sipper. Or you could spend an evening out on the town during the Hendrick’s Gin Contest Crawl. In 2010, our very own T. Ballard Lesemann got to go along for the ride in a Charleston Black Cab as one of the contest’s costumed judges, inciting jealousy around the City Paper office. Last year’s winner was Rue De Jean, but they’re not going to be one of the stops this go around. Instead, crawlers will get to try drinks at Club Habana, Husk, Speakeasy, High Cotton, Social Wine Bar, Fish, the Cocktail Club, and the Belmont. There are some top-notch mixologists competing, so it’ll be a hard contest to call. The bartenders are also required to come up with an original limerick to impress the judges. Looks like they’re poets and we didn’t even know it.
