Happy New Year, Charleston
Tue., Dec. 31, 4-10:30 p.m. 2013
Here’s the thing about New Year’s Eve: it can be scary and stressful. You have to worry about people on the roads, what to wear, who to kiss (or not), and then there’s the hangover. Say screw it to all those annoyances that dampen the day and attend the family-friendly, alcohol-free party in Marion Square. And while you may miss out on watching drunken revelers swaying off-beat to music, there’ll be plenty of other entertainment. Plane Jane headlines the event, and the Mt. Zion Spiritual Singers and the Blue Plantation Band will also perform. Jump castles, a mobile video game center, Dynamo Dogs, face painting, the Missing Link dance crew, and an illusionist round out the entertainment. We’re sure there’ll be some more surprises. Plus, the added benefit of spending time with your family and friends — and remembering it. But if you really want to toast the new year with some actual booze, King Street is mere steps away — and the 10:30 p.m. end-time ensures you’ll have time to stop in for one.
