Stanley Gruber isn’t just a farmer — he also works as a football coach. He’s got 300 victories under his belt, and his CSA program at Gruber Farm marks his 301st. Gruber does all the growing and harvesting himself. His CSA, which is how he moves the majority of his product, has 20-plus drop-offs, nine of which are near Charleston. He plants 40 different crops, and each individually packaged box comes filled with a variety of vegetables that are picked the day before delivery. For the fall try to grab pumpkin, squash, and sweet potatoes. Patrons can find him at the Summerville and Port Royal Farmers Market on Saturdays. He is also working with GrowFood Carolina. Find information on Gruber’s CSA through his website and secure access to his purple potatoes, swiss chard, carrots, and rutabagas.
