The weather is changing from popsicles and ice cream to hot chocolate and fruitcake, so King of Pops is preparing for a partial winter hibernation. Before they disappear for the season, the King will be having a party to mark a successful third year in Chucktown. “It’s our way of thanking everyone that has been a fan and welcoming those that may not know us yet to try some pops for free,” says Andy McCarthy from KOP. The family-friendly event will have carnival games, a mechanical bull, and a pop piñata as well as free frozen treats. A pop-eating contest will test your mettle as you try to scarf one down the fastest without being waylaid by brain freeze. Or you can compete in a contest where a partner dangles a popsicle-on-a-string in your mouth, which either sounds like the best idea or the worst torture. Donations from the party will go to the local Green Heart Project, which helps teach kids about the importance of sustainable planting and growing techniques. Sad to see them go? Don’t be. King of Pops will still be offering small runs of seasonal flavors until next spring.
