Grab your seat at the Ultimate Critics Dinner

Tickets are limited for this must-eat meal

If you could pick the ultimate Charleston chefs to prepare the ultimate course for your ultimate dinner, who and what would you choose? That task was set before some of Charleston's toughest food critics and writers: Jeff Allen and Robert Moss of the City Paper, Marion Sullivan of Charleston Magazine, Deidre Schipani of The Post and Courier, and local author and former P&C critic Holly Herrick.

Together, the group narrowed it down to six of the city's top chefs. They also tapped the talents of acclaimed pastry chef Lauren Mitterer of WildFlour Pastry and Charleston Grill frontman Mickey Bakst to create and present a can't-miss five-course charity dinner.

The Ultimate Critics Dinner is designed to raise money for the Charleston Wine + Food Festival's 2010 charity, to be announced in August, and will take place at The Cottages on Charleston Harbor on Sept. 1.

Participating chefs are Sean Brock of McCrady's, Jeremiah Bacon of Carolina's, Craig Deihl of Cypress, Mike Lata of FIG, Frank Lee of Slightly North of Broad, and Michelle Weaver of Charleston Grill.

"The planning for this event began more than two years ago," says Jeff Allen, a member of the Wine + Food Fest's auction and charity committee. "We pulled together some local food writers and came up with the idea to honor local chefs while raising money for a good cause."

He adds, "It allows us to give back to the community and recognize the great culinary talent that we have here in Charleston, benefits local charities, and provides increased visibility for the Festival during the launch of ticket sales — a win-win all the way around."

Tickets are $200 per person and special room rates are available for those wishing to stay overnight at The Cottages. RSVP by calling (843) 727-9998 ext. 1 or e-mail by Aug. 30. Space is limited.
