Re: “We may have a black president, but we're far from beyond prejudice

//I went into a West Ashley restaurant a few weeks back and was completely ignored by the waiter tending the bar area. I was dressed nicely, I had been in that restaurant before, and the restaurant was not busy. I thought that the bartender might be having a bad day until I saw him pleasantly greet and interact with other customers//

That's happened to me more times than I can remember. Recently too.
And I have light brown hair and blue eyes. I just chalk it up to an incompetent bartender and don't tip him. Simple, huh?

And you've got me scratching my head in confusion over this lack of blacks in Charleston restaurants. Last I heard, going to a restaurant is completely voluntary, right? And in this economy I'm willing to bet the owners of these restaurants would be more than happy to have more customers - even if they were.. *gasp! Black!!*

Better luck next time with the pity party.

Re: “Let's not let Charleston become Myrtle Beach

//But they are not as numerous, and their riders are not as antisocial as motorcyclists. And that brings us to the other problem with motorcycles — violence.//

What a crock.

I am not a biker, have never ridden a motorcycle, and have never been to the Myrtle Beach rally. BUT - over the years I have attended concerts at bike rallies in other towns and I have never seen a more polite group of people. Many times drunk bikers bumped into me or stepped on my toes and without exception they each and every one apologized for it. No hassles, no drama, and no big deal.

And a friend of mine once owned a campground in NC and said pretty much the same thing. That they're always polite and always clean up after themselves when they leave.

Better luck next time Lessdock, but people who have actually been around bikers know the truth.

Re: “Congressional apology for slavery was completely illogical

>>Self-centeredness is the scourge of our nation. It is responsible for gross consumerism, for huge corporations with not a shred of integrity, and for a vast growing gulf between the very rich and the very poor. What's in it for ME? You're either for ME or against ME. Me, me me!<<

Sounds a lot like this slavery thing..

"You owe ME an apology!"

"You owe ME reparations!"

The difference, however, is one group is willing to work for what they want in life ,while the other wants the world handed to them on a silver platter.

Re: “Congressional apology for slavery was completely illogical

>>The first part of your column that I would like to address is the "apology for today's high black crime rate — a very real problem that affects people living in the present." This statement alone shows me how uneducated you are since the majority of the crime is black on black,<<

Well, doesn't that affect people living in the present? You just admitted it, so why worry about something that happened 200 years in the past when there are real problems to deal with today???
