Gibbes on the Street: Framing the Future
Thu., May 12, 7:30-10 p.m. 2011

There aren’t very many things that will shut down Meeting Street. A car wreck, possibly. Or a parade of some sort. But the Gibbes Museum of Art has been given the rare power to close up the road in front of its building, from Cumberland to Queen, on Thursday for Gibbes on the Street: Framing the Future. Charleston Ballet Theatre will give a special performance, and guests should take some cues from the old Martha and the Vandellas song “Dancing in the Street” and, you know, dance in the street. Some of the best restaurants in Charleston — like Cypress, Oak Steakhouse, Trattoria Lucca, WildFlour Pastry, and more — will prepare fancy takes on street food, and there will be an open bar. Attendees must be 21, and the Gibbes won’t be selling tickets at the door. Heck, there won’t even be a door.
