Just because you're broke doesn't mean you can't look as dapper as Joe Riley. With re-sale stores all over the city, there are plenty of opportunities to both make a little cash and buy some reasonably priced clothes. And who doesn't like the thrill of a solid thrift store find?

Consign Charleston
>1610 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. West Ashley
(843) 225-9055

If you've never heard of a bag sale before, well, you're in for a treat. And you're also in Charleston just in time to check out Consign Charleston's fall bag sale, on Sat. Sept. 10. The premise is simple: you buy a bag for $10 and then stuff it full of clothes. Fun, right? Proceeds from the sale also benefit the Connie Lieding Scholarship Fund which helps young women complete their education, so your purchase helps out a good cause, too. Head to Consign Charleston's website to see what kinds of clothing they're taking during any given season.

Exchange Factor
5128 Rivers Ave. North Charleston
(843) 747-9625

With a tagline like, "recycling is always in style," you know that North Chuck's Exchange Factor makes the most of every item that comes through its doors. The store takes your old clothes, and items like CDs too, giving you either cash or trade in return. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to us.

Trunk Show Charleston
281 Meeting St. Downtown
(843) 722-0442

Trunk Show Charleston offers a more upscale version of your typical consignment store, selling designer clothing, purses, shoes, jewelry, cocktail and formal wear, and men's items. The Trunk Show's Facebook is always updating their page with hot items, like Louis Vuitton wallets, a Tory Burch suede cross body, and Herve Leger dresses.

Uptown Cheapskate
875 Houston Northcutt Blvd. Mt. Pleasant
(843) 216-1416

Uptown Cheapskate's business model is similar to Plato's closet — take in your gently used clothes, shoes, and accessories Mon.-Sat. from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and get cash on the spot. The store is currently looking for more premium denim, maxi dresses, designer purses, and men's clothing, so empty your closet with stuff you don't want and take home money or a new-to-you something special.

326 King St. Downtown
843) 722-7768

While not technically a re-sale store, OOPS! Co. still sells discounted clothes, including factory irregulars and overruns, catalog cancellations, goods from previous seasons, and closeouts. And don't worry those irregulars aren't so irregular — OOPS! won't carry clothes that have rips, tears, holes, or stains. In addition to clothing and accessories, OOPS! also sells Charleston necessities like Yeti tumblers and koozies.
