Whether you're religious or not, if you like to ride on two wheels, you might want to stop by the Blessing of the Bikes, which will be held June 3 at 10 a.m. outside the Circular Congregational Church. The ceremony will be short and sweet, open to all wheels and faiths.
“We want to reach out to the Charleston community,” says Circular’s Senior Pastor Jeremy Rutledge. “For us this is an expression of faith, but riding bikes is fun. We want people to do it safely and carefully."
Attendees will line up with their bikes, a short blessing will be read together, and that’s all, folks. There is no requirement to attend the church service post ceremony.
The 10 a.m. start time was chosen to accommodate to morning bike rides and Sunday’s plans. “We’re not trying to lure people into church, we’re saying this is something we value,” Rutledge says.
