October has many perks. For one thing, buying candy in bulk is marginally less humiliating, even if it is for that you-versus-you eating contest (guilty). And you have an excuse to wear a sexy outfit, like that hamburger suit complete with a pickle hat. So it makes sense that Deutschland throws October a big "thank you" party. Celebrate it like a true German this weekend with Gene’s Haufbrau at their 11th annual Oktoberfest. They’ll have $4 pints of fall and German beers like Dogfish Pumpkin Ale, Franziskaner, and Spaten Optimator. The first frau to finish the tallest beer will be named the official Oktoberfest queen, and the fastest bratwurst eater will be crowned her king. Live music will flow as steadily as the beer with performances by the Musik Katz Oompah Band, Dave Sykes King Street Band, Stan Gray and the Stingrays, Folk Grass, and Sarah Cole and the Hawkes. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Fire Station 10 just down the street from Gene’s. "We wanted to help our neighbors," general manager Dottie Lundeen says. "They’re all great guys, and they’re always in need of donations."
