Garage Cuban Band returns to Avondale

Voodoo welcomes the 'Good Hermanos' Thurs. Nov. 12

Voodoo Tiki Bar and Lounge (15 Magnolia Road) welcomes the return of the fiery Garage Cuban Band on Thurs. Nov. 12. Jack Burg, Bill Carson, Jonathan Gray, Ron Wiltrout, and special guests will "offer a distinctive interpretation of Cuban music as it might be heard in a back alley, busy street, or dusty garage of the island nation" on an array of guitars, string bass, traditional percussion, a Casiotone keyboard, and an antique loudspeaker.

"We're definitely not trying to break ground," Carson told City Paper over the summer, when the group performed at Voodoo in July. "We use some noisy sounds here and there, but even though we have a Casiotone, a Big Muff guitar pedal, and feedback solos, in terms of form, we stay pretty legit. We all sing, so it's a little more focused on songs. We always bring elements of traditional and noise rock, so there's a balance."

Music starts at 9 p.m. Cover is $3. The Voodoo bar staff will be slinging several Cuban drink and food specials all evening. Check out myspace.com/buenoshermanos and voodootikibar.com for more.
