Funk Fest 2009 (Update) 

A funky concert at the Family Circle Magazine Stadium

Presented by Star 99.7 FM, Funk Fest 2009 looks like an impressive concert with a handful of cool funk and hip-hop acts. The updated lineup (as of Wed. June 10) incudes several recently-added acts: K'Jon, Slique, Al B. Sure, and the notorious vocalist and reality TV star Bobby Brown.

Set to take place one the Family Circle Magazine Stadium stage on Sat. June 13, the all-day, rain-or-shine concert features headliner Maze, led by lead vocalist Frankie Beverly. The group recently released a 20-track double-CD titled Anthology featuring the most popular and successful songs by the smooth soul/R&B group

Guy (featuring songwriter and vocalist Aaron Hall) worked in the 1980s and '90s from a mix of hip-hop, R&B, and soul. Old-school rapper Doug E. Fresh won fans with such hits as "The Show" and "La-Di-Da-Di." Deborah Cox is a Canadian-based R&B vocalist touring behind a new album titled The Promise.

Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, and producer Al B. Sure visits town in support of new album titled Honey I'm Home (available on June 23 from Hidden Beach/Universal Music Group). The new album is a "musical biography that tells of a journey of love, romance, and relationships."

The venue is located at 161 Seven Farms Drive on Daniel Island. Gates open at 3 p.m. and music starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are available for $55, $45, and $35. So is Bobby Brown playing this thing or not? I've seen his name on flyers for it, and have heard his name in some ads, not heard his name in others. What gives? "On Our Own" made Ghostbusters II, thats all I'm saying.
