Just half a block off King Street is the charming, vine-covered building that houses Fulton Five. Its cozy dining room, complete with banquette seating and white tablecloths, is perfect for an intimate candlelit dinner. The Northern Italian menu features handmade pasta like tagliatelle bolognese and asparagus and smoked ricotta-filled ravioli along with hearty trattoria fare like seared duck breast and leg confit, a chocolate espresso-rubbed filet, and a grilled veal T-bone in green peppercorn marsala sauce. When the weather is warm, a seat on the upstairs terrace provides some of the most pleasant al fresco dining in town. Little wonder Fulton Five has won Charleston City Paper Readers’ Pick for Charleston’s most romantic restaurant for 13 years running. —Robert Moss Dish (Winter 2013)
