Freeloaders: Shark Week, movies, and a grand finale 

The week's best free events

Kick off the first week of August with a fun, free event or two. This week starts out slow, but don’t worry, the weekend is packed with things to do.

MONDAY. Start your week off right with live music. Check out Savannah-based roots/rock group The Train Wrecks at the Pour House at 9 p.m. The four-person group just finished recording their debut album, Whiskey & War.

TUESDAY. Local groove/rock group Quasiphonics is playing at Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ in West Ashley at 9 p.m.

WEDNESDAY. Freshfields Village’s Starlight Cinema series continues tonight. This week’s movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, begins at 9 p.m. Remember to bring chairs and blankets to lounge on.

THURSDAY. Celebrate Shark Week with a viewing of Jaws at the S.C. Aquarium. The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. on Liberty Square (bring your own chairs and blankets).

FRIDAY. Tonight’s a busy onefor art fans. Redux Contemporary Art Center hosts an opening reception from 6-9 p.m. for the I Am Two with Nature exhibit, featuring the work of Cari Freno and Travis Graves. An opening reception for the What is Charleston to You? exhibit takes place at Imaging Arts Gallery from 5-8 p.m. The exhibit features pieces by 18 local photographers. Plus there's the monthly Friday art walk. 

SATURDAY. Bring the kids to the Tennis Block Party at the Family Circle Cup Stadium on Daniel Island. The block party runs from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and includes activities, raffles, and a cook out. Feeling a little out of whack? Visit Integrative Health Solutions’ Open House from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for free acupuncture treatments, chiropractic adjustments, mini massages, and blood pressure screenings (appointments are limited). For some nighttime fun, say farewell to Waterfront Art Gallery at the 15 Year Grand Finale from 6-9 p.m.

SUNDAY. Get your copy of The Unexpected Visitor signed by author Margaret Baroody from 2-4 p.m. at West Ashley’s Barnes and Noble. Wrap up your weekend with a show by New Politics with Funeral Party and Jesse Prichard and Friends from 6-9 p.m. at the Pour House.
