Freeloaders: Look, up on Mellow Mushroom's patio

Free events this week!

Monday. Looking to shake off your personal “case of the Mondays?” Three spots on and around the Peninsula offer free music. Red’s Ice House in Mt. Pleasant has Dave Landeo, a local singer/guitarist handling anything from standard bar fare to more obscure pop/rock classics and originals. Mercato on the Market hosts the Leah Suárez Trio. And on James Island at the Pour House, Shovels & Rope, featuring Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent (and guests), play a variety of hillbilly classics, blues, country, and rockabilly on the deck. For those looking to shag off, Mojo's Club & Cigar Bar in Summerville has free lessons.

Tuesday. This is the last chance to catch the free exhibition of Paperdoll: The Search for the Perfect Man at the Robert Lange Studios.

Thursday. So-Cal psychobilly band Three Bad Jacks make their way to N. Charleston and The Mill for the first time. Three Bad Jacks have found recent success in the television world, with songs have been featured on HBO’s True Blood and the upcoming Chris Kattan movie Wanted: Undead or Alive. Fans should expect to see a high-energy set, with local-rockabilly favorites the Defilers opening.

Friday. It's First Fridays on Gallery Row, when the boutiques, fine art galleries, and bodegas on Gallery Row open their doors to curious meanderers.

Saturday. It's time to break out the tights for the Super-Blü Magazine Launch Party, when the upstairs bar at Mellow Mushroom will transform into a secret lair for local superheroes in celebration of the magazine's release. Guests are encouraged to dress up as a superhero to win a chance at $100 in cash prizes. It's free before 11 p.m. with an RSVP.
