With the summer solstice fast approaching, temperatures seem to keep rising. And rising. Beat the summer heat with these indoor activities and late evening freebies.

Monday Ladies enjoy free bubbly beverages and samples at Ladies Night at Badd Kitty and receive 10 percent off of merchandise. Or perhaps, you wanted something a little more literary? Go to Karen White’s book signing of her new book set on Edisto Island, The Time Between, at Blue Bicycle Books.

Tuesday Sometimes Tuesdays can be worse than Mondays. If you've got a case of the Tuesdays, take in the last day of the Material Matters exhibit to lift your mood. Laughter can also cheer you up, so head on over to Castaways Grille for some comedy. If comedy isn't what you're looking for, maybe some skatting is more up your alley? Unit 4 will be playing a combo of jazz, blues, and school funk at the Tattooed Moose.

Wednesday School may have just gotten out for summer, but there's no harm in looking ahead. Attend the "Charter Schools Info Expo for Prospective Students," where local charter school representatives will be answering questions and giving information about their schools for the upcoming school year.  For some more family fun, Freshfields Village will be presenting Starlight Cinema: Madagascar 3. Had enough family time? Head on down to the Surf Bar at Folly Beach to see Hit or Miss, a rock and groove duo featuring singer and guitarists Joel Timmons and Ward Buckheister of Sol Driven Train.

Thursday If you like Second Sundays on King Street, you’ll also love Summerville Third Thursday where they host live music, entertainment, and an art walk the third Thursday of every month.  More live music is available around town starting with some rock with Disco Demolition Knights at Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ in West Ashley.  You could also head downtown to see the Frank Duvall Trio perform some jazz at High Cotton.

Friday It’s never too late or early to start protecting your skin. The Hat Ladies are having Hat Day in the Sun where they will give away free hats to promote hat wearing as a form of skin protection starting at noon. For some delicious, healthy food, go to the Vegan Potluck at Jivamukti Yoga in Mount Pleasant. Celebrate International Surf Day at Blu and dance the night away while old surf videos are projected on the wall.

Saturday North Charleston has a new coffee shop, The Orange Spot, and they’re starting off with a bang at their grand opening. Enjoy yard games, treats, and Orange Spot drinks.

Sunday Sundays are a great day for the movies, so why not hit up this free documentary? Earthlings, produced by Nation Earth that examines the reality of the meat industry, will be presented by Carolina C.A.R.E. This film does contain graphic scenes of animal slaughter. Finish the weekend up with some rock, soul, and variety from Corinne and the Resolution at K.C. Mulligans.
