Forty is a pretty monumental birthday, and a lot of people choose to celebrate it with a little nip and tuck. Perhaps that’s what Folly Beach had in mind when their county park was renovated. As Folly celebrates its 40th anniversary, the town and business association have organized a killer party. Why the big bash? DJ Rich, one of the main organizers of the event, says, “A lot of people fought to bring Folly’s independence within Charleston County, and the people before us built and laid the foundation for our local governance.” Sounds like a good enough reason to party for us. On Saturday, Center Street will be closed to traffic, and the beach town will bring back some of Folly’s favorite pastimes. So whether you’re shagging on the pier, swinging to some jazz, or playing classic arcade games, you’ll definitely have something to do. The events will vary in price and location, so make sure you plan ahead. The festivities will close with music by the Tams, who were one of the last bands to play on the original pavilion in the ’70s, and a shagging contest.
