Final Death Knell for Old Timey Charleston

Morris Sokol Closes

Staff Pick

Writers don’t have budgets for fancy love seats — we sit on milk cartons and type on Commodore 64s — so we never had the chance to shop at Morris Sokol. But we always appreciated the fact that the furniture store sat squarely in the middle of King Street. It was a reminder that Charleston used to be, you know, a normal town, a peninsula where people would drive a few blocks from their homes to buy a new dining room table instead of hiking all the way out to Rivers Avenue. Even if we never lived through them, we miss those days. —Kinsey Gidick
