Local artist Rebecca West Fraser walked into Christophe Artisan Chocolatier-Pâtissier with the simple request that they hang a poster for her upcoming art show. Instead, they showed her a spare room in the shop. “It was just full of light,” remembers Fraser, and the store asked her if she wanted to host an art show there. Fraser used to work at Artist & Craftsman, which introduced her to a lot of the local artists looking for affordable show locations. The final Friday of each month will feature a new artist at the sweets shop, and the work will stay up all month long. “Hopefully this will become a new space in Charleston,” Fraser says. This month’s exhibit features Alan Jackson, an architect who finds release in abstract drawings. He is able to utilize his meticulous skill without getting bogged down in the specific measurements that are so vital to his career. He also experiments using paper, canvas, and wood as bases.
