• Where, When, How Much:
This year's Vans Warped Tour takes place on Mon. June 26 at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds in Ladson. The Vans Warped Tour 2006 kicked off on Thurs. June 15 in Columbia, Md., and will conclude on Sun. Aug. 13 in Montreal. Tickets are $27 and are on sale at www.ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets, and at the Fairgrounds on the day of show. Gates open at 11 a.m. Music starts at noon. The event comes to a close at 8:30 p.m.
• Mainstream Success:
Last year, Rolling Stone called the Warped Tour "America's most successful festival." Main sponsor Cingular Wireless describes this year's event as "fusing cutting-edge musical artists, top athletes in the action sports world, and a wide range of attractions for fans."
• Mainstream Sponsorship: Corporate sponsors include music mags Alternative Press and Spin, Hurley, West 49, several major and smaller record labels, Major League Baseball, Guitar Center, Trojan Condoms, and Hot Topic, among many others.
• There's a ton of shit:
The touring entourage features 50 bands on five stages, two big skate ramps, two big bike ramps, a batting cage, a variety of concession stands, over 30 touring trucks and production buses, eight motor homes, eight forklifts, and over 800 staffers and musicians.
• Local Bands: Festivalgoers should keep an eye and ear out for a few local bands who were recently added to the bill, including Handgun Sonata, Red Handed, and Aslan.
• The Warped Rotating Lineup:
With Warped, every band is a co-headliner. There's no confirmed order of bands until the day of the show. "This gives all acts on the bill a chance to be a headliner and have different audiences exposed to their music," explains fest promoter Brandis Devon. "To help fans get the most bang for their buck, Cingular will provide band line-ups and autograph session schedules via special text messages." To opt-in, concert-goers can simply sign up for their particular city at www.warpedtour.com, www.cingularsource.com, or receive the text code once at the concert venue.
• The lineup is hefty:
This week's show at the Fairgrounds is the only S.C. stop for the Vans Warped Tour 2006 and it includes a pretty wild variety of punk-inspired rock bands:
