As you probably know by now, Charleston was recently named the Best Tennis Town in the entire country. That’s a big title to live up to, so we’ve really got to up the ante this year at the Family Circle Cup. The annual competition offers up more than a week of professional tennis and other events. The Cup officially begins Sat. April 2 with a Family Weekend, featuring climbing walls, live music, and more. Tuesday kicks off with the Winning in Doubles Luncheon, where you’ll dine with Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik, the world No. 2 doubles team. Later that day is the Tri-County Quickstart Challenge, where teams from the three local school districts will compete for a variety of awards. And that night, the Lowcountry Tennis Association will revel in our big title win at the Best Tennis Town Celebration. April 6 is USTA Member Appreciation Day as well as Young Professionals Night, a happy hour for the Charleston Chamber of Commerce group. The Club Doubles Championship takes place April 7-8, and April 8-9 is the Great American Bake Sale, which benefits Share Our Strength, a hunger prevention organization. Throughout the event, you should also check out the Instinctive Tennis Academy to get a video analysis of your own skills on the court. And Tuesday through Saturday, the Cup hosts special happy hours with a different band each evening from 5-7 p.m. The event wraps up on April 9 with “Game, Set, Rock. Tennis. Amplified,” a tennis exhibition where John McEnroe, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, and Todd Martin will show off their skills.
