McCrady’s is in on it. Charleston Stage is in on it. And now Eye Level Art joins the ranks of local folks embracing the vintage style of the Prohibition era. After weeks of swing dancing classes at their Spring Street space, they celebrated the students’ new skills with a night of live music and retro-style swing dancing. Dancers took over the gallery with impressive moves, as men twirled their partners and went for high kicks. Families and couples alike made up the jiving group, and there was not a motionless limb around.
The seven-piece swing band, Elise Testone and the Bootleg Band, was lively and colorful, with impressive drum and trumpet solos. Eye Level Art plans on branching out from swing dance instruction, with a larger variety of dance classes to be offered in the future. And we can expect to hear (through the grapevine) about more speakeasy nights as these classes continue. To learn more and sign up for the dance classes, check out eyelevelart.com.
