The recipe for this robust, vinegar-based sauce is 30-plus years old, but consumers have only had access to it for a few months. In 1980 in Gifford, S.C., Ed's Heirloom Sauce was brewed in small batches and shared among friends and relatives at Big Ed's Barbecue Restaurant & Pigtail Hunt Camp. Now it's the new Pigtail Brand's flagship product. The gluten-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, and preservative-free Heirloom Sauce, which is slightly sweet and spiced with pepper, was recently recognized by the National BBQ Association in their annual Awards of Excellence. —Alison Sher
