A wise bird once said, “Give a hoot, don’t pollute.” While those words are true, Earth Day’s evolved into something much bigger than just not trashing Mother Nature. To honor our planet, Charleston County is once again throwing a party for Earth. This year’s theme is “Earth to Charleston,” and the fest will feature music from the Bluestone Ramblers and Shrimp City Slim, a Goodwill fashion show, animal demonstrations (lizards and birds of prey, separately), and a Mad Science demonstration. Plus, festival-goers can stop by for demos on composting, info about electric cars, and a discussion about switching to cloth diapers. “Attendees are encouraged to bring old tires, electronic waste, confidential documents for shredding, household hazardous waste like paints and pesticides, and items for Goodwill to drop off in the parking lot before they enter the festival,” says Christina Moskos, recycling coordinator for Charleston County. In true Earth Day fashion, Charleston County encourages everyone to carpool, ride a bike, walk, or take CARTA.
