Learn about worm juice, be a mad scientist, and check out animals from birds to lizards at the Charleston County Earth Day festival this weekend. The day will be filled with live music, hands-on activities, and fun, educational demonstrations. The Military Magnet Academy’s marching band kicks off the festivities, and the Blue Dogs, Professor Bottleneck and Harmonica Frank, and The Bluestone Ramblers will also perform. In addition to seeing animals from the Avian Conservation Center and the Kiawah Island Nature Center, attendees can drop off their old clothes for Goodwill and see an exclusive Goodwill Fashion Show. You can also watch a local step team show by Gentlemen of Duty & Distinction Service Brotherhood, do some Zumba, and hear stories from Hawk Hurst. And of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn about issues like alternative energy, conservation, local and organic agriculture, and animals and habitat preservation. Food trucks and vendors will be on site with locally sourced cuisine and eco-friendly vegetarian options. The county is also offering free paper shredding services and electronic waste collection at the event all day. All participants are asked to commit to reducing waste, so consider carpooling or biking, and don’t forget your reusable bags.
