Dusty Slay thinks you’re smart. At least, that’s what he told us when we asked him about his monthly stand up show, the Homegrown Stand Up Showcase. “I think Charleston has a unique brand of stand up comedy,” he says. “We have really smart people here that really like good jokes.” Slay, who’s a two-time winner of the Charleston Stand Up Competition and a well-known comedian about town, put together this showcase to feature local comedians doing what they love while hopefully making the audience laugh. “I try to take people from the weekly open mic to another level so they can get out of the bar scene and more into the theater,” Slay says. Although Slay typically hosts his showcases, this time he’ll close the show and leave the hosting duties to Sam Jackel. The lineup will also include local comedians Taylor Rizzo, Timmy Booth, and Tommy Hutchins. “People can expect to laugh for only 10 bucks,” Slay says. Who can say no to that?
