Dueling underground supper clubs fill up the calendar

Guerrilla Cuisine, City Grit, and LIME dinners planned

Guerrilla Cuisine is getting busy these days. This week alone, the supper club is hosting two events. On Thursday night, the chefs of 39 Rue de Jean will be preparing a sushi dinner, and then on Sunday, Dan Doyle of Poogan’s Porch will be whipping up a multi-course meal. Both of those are happening in undisclosed locations. If you want to know where, you’ll have to sign up (guerrillacuisine.com).

Guerrilla host jimihatt will find himself with a bit of competition for the foodie crowd on Sunday night. Heirloom Book Co. on lower King Street is hosting City Grit, a roving underground club from New York that’s hosted by Sarah McSimmons, a Southern ex-pat who will put a French spin on Southern food for Parlez Vous Francais Y’all (citygritnyc.com/on-the-road).

Later in the month on May 21, L.I.M.E. Charleston will host a “Liming with Friends” dinner in conjunction with Lowcountry AIDS Services. Chef Jon Cropf of Blu and mixologists Boris Van Dyck and Jackson Holland of ICEBOX will present a multi-course cocktail-paired dinner.

Then, after this weekend, Guerrilla will have a string of events, with a pottery showcase and Chef Brett McKee dinner on May 29, an all-star dinner with Fred Neuville of Fat Hen, Nico Romo of Fish, and Nathan Whiting of Tristan on June 5, and a barbecue/rock ‘n’ roll show with Smokesouth on June 12. Later in June, GC will host Sean Park of O-Ku, Amen Street’s Stephen Ollard, and Travis Grimes of Husk in conjunction with Martha Lou’s Kitchen.

Sounds like you should put your eating pants on and get ready to feast.
