The first farm of its kind in South Carolina, the Lowcountry Local First Incubator Farm and Training Center is located on Walnut Hill Road on Johns Island. It came to fruition with help from big supporters in the community like the Limehouse family, who donated the land, and Steen Enterprises, which donated a tractor, and architect David Thompson, who designed the packing shed. The property has been divided into one- and two-acre lots for up to six farmers to receive business incubation, as well as an area dedicated to hands-on education and training for apprentices, farmers, and the public. Currently there are six farmers (descriptions of their farms follow this entry) participating in the program. Participant farmers John Warren, Gina Perez, Bo Collins, and Harleston Townes are all graduates of LLF's Growing New Farmers Apprentice Program, and Rita Bachmann manages the site and mentors the young farmers.
