Photographers David Batchelder and Yve Assad have joined forces, and the result will be on display at the City Gallery starting this weekend. Defining Focus: Views of the Coast combines Assad’s aerial photography and Batchelder’s macro photography to depict the Lowcountry marshes and coastlines in a unique way. “These pieces present a beautiful meditation on the air and water of the South Carolina coast,” says the Charleston Cultural Affairs Department’s Alicia Evans. “They challenge viewers to consider a new perspective on one of our most important assets — the beaches.” As part of the exhibition, the City Gallery hopes to stimulate discussion about the Lowcountry’s fragile environment and the importance of maintaining and respecting our beaches. Make sure you bring your imagination — the exhibit blends the detailed and abstract so well that even Charlestonians may not recognize the landscape.
