IMO The word 'college' still does have a stigma regardless of how old. It may be recognized in Charleston. That is it. A college is not thought of as a University. I know you do not want to hear it if you went COC but sorry that is the cold truth. You can blame those who do not consider a "college" as a university but that is how things are in reality. It is worldwide let alone nationally. In the short run it may be a bad idea but in the long run it may be a good idea to have a 3rd big university , one in High country (Clemson) , one in the middle and one in low country.
I only have problem with the name as there already a University of Charleston in West Virginia. A name that includes state name such as CUSC or SCCU or CSCU would be more appropriate to distinguish it from WV
I saw someone post about Spin New York. There is actually a Table Tennis center in Charleston area
