Cupcakes and school supplies seem like pretty big opposites, but not to Cupcake Down South, which has teamed up with WINGS for Kids, a nonprofit that focuses on teaching social and emotional skills to elementary-aged kids after school, to collect school supplies for those in need. WINGS is asking for pencils, markers, crayons, colored pencils, hula-hoops, kickballs, basketballs, soccer balls, kid-size running shoes, and white or black kid-size T-shirts — the top 10 most needed school supplies, according to WINGS. To sweeten the deal, Cupcake will give you a wooden token good for one free cupcake if you donate three items. Memminger Elementary, Chicora Elementary, North Charleston Elementary, and James Simons Elementary schools all work with the WINGS programs. Stop by either Cupcake location to drop off donations, and while you’re there you may as well reward yourself with a treat.
