Aysha Meadows knew Jarae Campbell was the partner she’d been looking for to start her fashion line the moment they met. “I’m trying to start my own line, and you look really cute and dress well,” she said to Campbell, and CREATE Accessories and Apparel was born. The line is completely self-funded and everything is handmade. Meadows describes their style as against the norm: think necklaces made from door-locks and men’s baseball caps with custom snapback brims, like a Chicago Bulls hat with an African print on the bottom of the brim. Meadows expects the launch party to be very chill, with grilling and music on the deck. They will have some items for sale, but the main focus will be to showcase their work and mark the start of their online store. From their posts on Twitter and Instagram, CREATE already has orders placed from as far away as South Africa. “Our hard work is finally paying off,” Meadows says. And with all handmade items, it looks like their order inbox is going to keep them working for a while — and this pair is ready for the challenge.
