Cowboy Take Me Away

Professional bull riding sexier than expected

Growing up in the suburbs of Charleston, I must admit I had no idea what I was getting myself into upon entering the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night for the Enterprise Professional Bull Riders Tour. Expecting excessive amounts of plaid, tacky faux-fringed chaps and spurred boots, I was pleasantly surprised when I remembered the main draw that has been attracting women to the rodeo since the days of the American Wild West: cowboys are hot. I could not help but immediately cheer the young, handsome fellas on as they clung to the thrashing bulls with every ounce of strength they could muster, risking life and limb for eight seconds of fame and an ultimately hefty pay-off. Maybe it was the generosity of the PBR staff, letting me climb right onto the gates of the ring to snap a few amazing pictures, or the impressive muscle tone and skills of the riders, or just the general sense of excitement in the air, but the sport of professional bull riding has successfully converted a new fan.
